It was a tough day. I had spent the whole day drilling out mercury (silver) fillings, and was more wiped out, both physically and emotionally, that I had been in many years. My wife noticed my terrible condition, and insisted I go home immediately. There she filled the tub with hot water, put in a mysterious concoction, and ordered me to soak for about 20 minutes.

After 10 minutes or so I started to feel a semblance of being human again. As my feet and hands started to get wrinkled, I started feeling fabulous.

After getting out of the tub, I realized I felt better than I had for several weeks. There was a clarity, a calmness, a revitalization. I went to bed and had a peaceful, restful sleep.

The next morning I asked my wife “What was that stuff?” It was heavy metal/mercury detox clay that she had purchased at a whole body convention. It is made by LL’s Detox Clay Baths. Since then I take at least one bath a week, and feel a definite improvement in my clarity and energy levels.

We have the clay available at our office, or it can be purchased at www.magneticclay.com This site has a lot of great information on their products and on toxicity in general. It is called magnetic clay because the clay naturally has an opposite charge than the heavy metals, so it can pull the metals out of the body through the skin. The clay has not been treated in any manner, it is a totally natural product.

To take a bath, it is recommended that one get a stopper set, which consists of a fine strainer that fits in the drain to prevent clumps of clay from blocking up the plumbing, and a flat stopper to fit over the strainer. Both of these are also available at our office, or at almost any large hardware store.

As the clay will remove minerals/electrolytes along with heavy metals, it is mandatory that these be replenished before and after taking the bath.

* Mercury starts vaporizing at 40°, so you can imagine how much of it vaporizes off when the filling (which is 50% mercury) is touched by the drill, as the friction creates high heat. Even though we take numerous safety precautions, and keep the temperature down with cold water, I still breathe some mercury vapor and some of it gets absorbed through my skin.

Priorities to maximize your health - as seen through the eyes of this Biological Dentist

In March I spoke to a class at Hillsboro Community College in Tampa on the subject of Alternative Dentistry.  The take-home message of that seminar was this list of priorities, in order of importance.   Empirically (through observation), certain points have reared their heads too many times to be ignored.  Notice where biological dentistry fits into this list of priorities.

1.  Decide that YOU ARE responsible for your own health. In the final analysis, NO ONE else is.

2.  Having a purpose is the key to living. Nothing is more pitiful than a person without a purpose, nothing is more powerful than a person with a purpose (even if his purpose is to get well and help others get well). Decide what your purpose is, and pursue it. It will help create life within you.

Concentrate on survival (positives). Avoid negatives, they are killers. Use gradients as necessary to make the transition to more positives. Consider exactly what your physical needs are and how YOU can improve your situation.

3.  Nutrition, exercise and sleep are crucial for optimum health. Water and minerals (electrolytes) are the essence of the nutrients for cellular metabolism.

The body is based on flows to create maximal efficiency. Nutrients go in and toxins and waste goes out. What we eat is broken down into utilizable minerals or toxic waste. If your body is misshapen, overweight, etc. there is a problem with the flows. Motion is key, i.e. exercise.

The kind of water enables the body to be either hydrated or dehydrated. In other words, how big is the water molecule, can it fit through the cell membrane? This is the essence of the new water products on the market.

One way you can ‘create’ optimum water from tap water is to filter it by reverse osmosis, distill it, then add Microhydrin to create a much smaller water molecule (thus increase the ability of the water to go into your cells).

4.  The body is interconnected. This is the basis of biological or holistic dentistry. Everything is connected to everything. This is the foundation of ancient oriental medicine (did they know something that western medicine does not know)?  Check out this great tooth meridian chart

The heart meridian runs right through the wisdom teeth sites. Is it a coincidence that many people have unhealed extraction sites where their wisdom teeth were removed, and heart disease is rampant?

Both the large and small intestines relate to the molars and wisdom teeth sites. Chiropractors have shown me that there is a relationship between a person grinding his teeth at night and having parasites in the intestines. Is this a coincidence?

5. In healing, radiation is a hidden suppressor to life. It can come from many sources: computer screens, cell phones, x-rays, the sun, medical applications, etc. There are many ways to eliminate accumulated radiation and the negative physical and emotional results it creates.

6. Dentistry, as well as any and all natural/ mechanical sciences, has validity. As the owner and custodian of your body, your job is to research the best way to enhance its survival.

The key way that Biological Dentistry can enhance physical health is to address the following areas that compromise the immune system:

....... • bacteria (gum-bone-tooth relationship)

....... • metals in the mouth (mercury, nickel)

....... • dead teeth, root canals

....... • unhealed extraction sites (cavitations)

....... • bite corrections; the way teeth fit together

The Roots of Disease, Connecting Dentistry and Medicine by Dr. Thomas Levy and Dr. Robert Kulacz (2002)
An exciting new book!!  Dr. Levy, a MD and attorney, and Dr. Kulacz, a dental surgeon, have discovered the negative impact that infective dental toxicity has on the health of many patients. They feel that dentistry and medicine must always be practiced in conjunction with each other. This is both a readable and educational book. 260 pages, paperback $19.95.

Whole-Body Dentistry by Mark A Breiner, DDS (1999)
Dr. Breiner, a holistic dentist in Connecticut, has done an excellent job in explaining the different aspects of biological dentistry in this easy to read book. You will learn to appreciate the relationship between your mouth and the rest of your body, enabling you to participate in your own treatment discussions. 232 pages, paperback $19.95.

Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment by Andrew Hall Cutler, PhD (1999)
I got a chance to speak with Dr. Cutler recently at a Biological Dental Assn meeting, where he was a speaker. He is a brilliant scientist from Princeton. This book will give you the ammunition you will need to successfully recover from amalgam illness, and will also help you avoid making bad decisions about treatment. Patient-friendly and detailed, it is a blueprint which points you in the right direction for each symptom and area of suffering. Do not proceed without it. 226 pgs, paperback $35.

We have a comprehensive library of books on alternative dentistry.  You are welcome to come by the office and browse.  Our chairs are as comfortable as Barnes & Noble, but the coffee service isn’t as good.

Important:
After researching the area, I have determined that the highest quality, true Vitamin C is either Nutri-West’s Sago-C-500 or Standard Process Collagen C. Add one of these to your daily supplements. Vitamin C is probably THE most important supplement to take, even if you take nothing else. Doses of up to 10,000 mg a day are therapeutic. It is a key factor in the health of teeth, bone and gums. Scurvy is the disease of inadequate Vitamin C, and is seen these days in the mouths of smokers (smoke burns up the Vitamin C).

But remember, do not take any Vitamin C for 48 hours prior to dental work, as it impairs the effectiveness of the anesthesia, and may require more to create numbness.  But it is ideal to take AFTER dental work, as it will flush out the anesthesia and aid healing.

Confession
I have learned an awful lot from my patients! They are some of the most educated, intelligent people that I’ve had the privilege to work with.

A few of my patients have made me aware of the real value of the rubber tip stimulator by Butler. It has an ability to create the exact right type of stimulation for the gums, which actually benefits the deep gums and bone! The rubber tip creates the finishing touches to true gum health (in addition to the methods in “The ecret”).* After massaging and stimulating the v-shaped piece of gum between the teeth (as explained in “The Secret”), * run the tip of the point around the gum-line to the next v-shape area between the teeth. This will remove bacteria and other near-invisible material, and creates unparalleled stimulation to the gum tissues which will revitalize this very important area. This can help maintain true health at the gum/tooth level. Neither floss, the HydroFloss nor a toothbrush can take the place of the magical powers of the Rubber Tip.

* “The Secret” is a technique that can markedly improve the health of the gums using simple, inexpensive ingredients, and its use can possibly avoid gum surgery in many cases.
