Dirty Forks?

Jerry Mittleman is a retired dentist from New York City.  He is one of the first dentists who really promoted preventative dentistry, and is a very interesting character. His idea of teaching another how to take care of their teeth is to create enough curiosity to get them to start asking questions.

One story I heard is that he would use a piece of string to hang a clean fork above the dental chair.  The inevitable burning question was usually answered by another question like "Have you ever eaten with a. fork that's been in the kitchen sink for several days?"  This question would cause the person to think at a deeper level than what video he was going to rent that night or what brand of cell phone to buy.   So it gets down to "How would you like to eat with something dirty, kinda turns one's stomach, doesn't it?

"Ok so Doctor, what are you trying to tell me?  What do I need to do?"  If you aren't willing to eat with dirty silverware, why are you willing to eat with dirty teeth?  When you floss for the first time in several weeks, the foul, smelly stuff you get out is worse than any dirty silverware. Having a film of residue on 'your teeth (which is teeming with bacteria) is worse than some dried food on a fork.

The second factor to good preventative dental care is having an ample supply of lood to the teeth and gums. This is the key to physical vitality. Notice that triatheletes are much healthier than wheelchair bound invalids.   Why is this?  It's due to the amount of motion the person is in.  No motion equals stagnation and deterioration, abundant motion equals health and vitality.  Motion creates strong blood flow, which is THE THING that oxygenates the body, and allows it to heal itself.

The same applies to the teeth and gums.  It is vital to gradiently apply motion at the key place, which is where the tooth and gum come together.   The condition of this junction makes or breaks dental health. With integrity at this location, the foundation remains strong-without it, dental health never really gets there.  This unction is similar to the vertical space between the end of your finger and the fingernail.  The key is how deep this space is. When it gets too deep, it's almost impossible to keep clean.

The motions that help keep this area healthy are the motions of a toothbrush, dental floss, rubber tip, toothpick, water pic, etc.  These motions are explained in "The Secret," which is a natural way to achieve healthy gums.  A copy of  "The Secret" is available at my office.
